I started teaching one of my first languages (Tagalog) in 1998, did this on and off in the intervening years, but didn’t even entertain the thought of leaving the confines of my safe office desk job in an import-export company until 2009. That’s when I did my CELTA, began teaching English (one of my other first languages!), and found my calling.

I mainly do in-company classes but also am a regular fixture in universities. As a regular attendee of seminars and workshops, I know how invigorating and enlightening these could be and also know that there’s no better opportunity to meet people who are just as enthusiastic as I am in expanding their horizons. So I guess it was inevitable that I would end up organizing and coordinating events almost from the moment I joined the committee in 2019. And what a ride it has been – with just a few exceptions, we have managed to put up regular monthly events since mid-2019.

As events coordinator, I’m really looking forward to playing my part in adding more to that list of events to foster our members’ professional development and as vice-chair, cultivate a robust and continuing outreach to our members as we strive to maintain and grow our membership.
