“Creative Speaking Activities” with Jon Wright

  • September 20, 2019
  • 17:00 to 20:30
  • Berufliche Schule für Medien und Kommunikation (BMK), Eulenkamp 46, 22049 Hamburg

The event

This event came about after our committee member Vincent saw Jon Wright speak at IATEFL. According to Vincent’s account, the crowd of roughly 100 conference-bedraggled teachers was so blown away by Jon’s workshop that they gave him a round of standing ovations, which –or so legend has it– lasted several minutes. Vincent consequently set about moving heaven and earth to bring Jon to Hamburg for this workshop, just for you!

What: “Creative Speaking Activities” with Jon Wright

When: 20 September 2019 (Friday) 17.00 – 20.30

Where: Berufliche Schule für Medien und Kommunikation, Eulenkamp 46, Hamburg

Communication has been at the heart of the language classroom for years, but measuring the effectiveness of speaking activities is still problematic.

Speaking skills involve more than grammatical accuracy and being familiar with conversation routines and formulaic expressions. Great conversation skills also include being creative with language in a number of interesting – and often surprising – ways.

This session will look at some innovative practical activities that promote original thinking and boost problem-solving skills to encourage learners of all levels to be creative when they speak. We will also explore ways of ensuring that pairwork and groupwork are both engaging and effective so learners and teachers know how to measure the success of communicative speaking activities.

If for whatever reason you are not able to make it on the Friday, please note that Jon is giving a second workshop in Berlin with our colleagues from ELTABB the following day.

Please feel free to share this event and with your colleagues and don’t forget to register at registration@helta.de. There will be coffee and tea provided. Our favourite members bring their own mugs so that we can save waste!

Looking forward to seeing you there!
