HELTA Members' Day - the most successful yet!

Hello Everyone,

What a fabulous Members' Day we had! Thanks to great speakers 'from within' as well as a plenary session with  Dr Catherine Walter (kindly sponsored by Oxford University Press), and of course, a buffet that filled a floor this was the most successful Members' day yet. If you missed it, do not fear. Our Commitee Member, Sarah Plochl, has been busy putting together our brand-new HELTA-blog, with a short write-up of the event here: https://heltasite.wordpress.com
But the fun does not stop here. Next up we have an event together with Klett Verlag on 25 November, when Ian Badger will be here, and don't miss our Christmas Party on 9 December with John Hudson to kick things off!
To find out more about these and other events, see our Events page.

Happy teaching,
Andreas & the HELTA Commitee

To be announced soon

Tribute to Kevin Curran

Dear Helta Members

I am very sorry to have to announce that Kevin Curran passed away unexpectedly at home last week.

Kevin was a very eager and active member of HELTA, whom I always enjoyed meeting and chatting to at our events. For a while he was also on the organising committee and gave up his free time to help bring some great speakers to Hamburg to share their ideas. Himself, a keen writer, Kevin later wrote about these events for the newsletter and in later years for our website.

A requiem mass will be held for Kevin on 17 December at 19:30 in the St. Marien Kirche, Feldstrasse (Ecke Mühlenweg), Wedel. Petra Selig and Tom Martini have asked that we pass on these details and to say that all are welcome to join them there, to remember Kevin.

Always so jolly and positive, his enthusiasm was contagious. We will miss him indeed.

 Best wishes

 Andreas, Helta Chair

An Afternoon with Paul Davis. Enlivening the Boring and Towards a More Lexical Approach

Who would have thought that beer-loving, cinema fanatic Paul Davis is also an expert and entertaining trainer with oodles of experience, an individual technique, an avid cyclist and aspiring chef.  Ok, so when discussing “technique“ I may as well be opening up the discussion “is Picasso art?“  However, Paul has as flair for making teaching an art: forget form, forget technique, teach!

Enlivening the Boring? Goal...
